Jamboree Day 6

The weather was much better today – though it might rain.  Went over to Sub-Camp 9 and visited Troop 909 again.  Then Timmy, Joseph and I went to the Merit Badge midway where they rode the BMX bikes.  They were also able to go into the Venturing mine which I was not allowed in…  The arena show tonight is supposed to be awesome – the boys are really excited.

Here are some pics of today…

Jamboree Day 5

Much cooler today – the boys are having a great time – so much to see and do…

Jamboree Day 4

There is so much to do, it’s difficult to decide.    I met up with my son Timmy and his friend Joe today.  They were just finishing up breakfast as I arrived – we then went over to the Merit Badge Midway and they worked on some merit badges.

Here are some pics from today…

Jamboree General

These are pics of Jambo General where the most serious cases are treated. It is manned by the air force and we have BSA volunteer physicians who liaison between us and the military. The boys and staff have some very good care waiting for them if needed

Jamboree Starts Today

Troop 909 is here and getting all setup.

Jambo staff day 4

It got hot today 104 and then at about 5pm clouds came in, it cooled down to 87 and there was a threat of a thunderstorm which cancelled our arena show which was too bad.

I worked all day in our clinic at Wilcox -it was steady all day with a variety of patients.

last night I worked all night at Wilcox medical clinic – we had no patients after 10 pm – so I caught the paperwork up and slept on one of our cots – woke up with my head stuck on my shoulder (my neck was stiff).  I concluded that those cots are for sick people on pain meds and not me.

I decided to go to the trading post to shop and see what they had.  I asked around about the shuttle service since it was non-existent Friday when I went to sub-camp 6 to get my footlocker.  I had to beg one of the Shotgun Staff to give me ride back to Wilcox.

Why didn’t I just walk?  Well on Friday I did – not realizing that the Wilcox camp is 4 miles from the main part of the Jamboree!  I had walked about a mile when someone stopped and asked me – “What are you doing?”  – I said “I am walking to sub camp 6″.  They started laughing and told me that not only was it too far to walk in this heat (4 miles), but I was going the wrong way.  lucky for me they gave me a ride and showed me the error of my ways.

Now in my defense, being a good scouter, I did have a map, but the only problem with the map was that Wilcox is not on it- there is just a road at the edge of the map that says “to Wilcox”.  I assumed that little road tail couldn’t be too far…

Jambo day 3 staff

I spent the night staffing Wilcox medical – we had some business in the early evening until about 9pm and then it quieted down The nights here are very nice – it cooled down and there were surprisingly few bugs.  Spent several hours in the early morning just watching the stars and contemplating life.   The days could not be much more miserable – today it got to at least 103 and lots of humidity – they elevated it to a black flag day – which I guess is bad.  Luckily I slept through most of the day today – in the air conditioned barracks –

below are some pictures Timmy took today in DC
